Seal stamps (Hanko/Inkan) questions about rules

Postby Sivak » Thu 02.21.2013 9:50 am

So I'm interested in getting a stamp so I can open a bank account. The only thing is I don't want to pay 8000 yen for one. I've been looking around online, but I'm still unsure on some things.

-Is it true city hall has to approve your stamp?
-Will a bank take a rubber stamp? I heard stories about needing wood or something... Not sure if that's true.
-Does the stamp have to be certain dimensions?
-Does it matter if you make your own design, so long as your name is legible? I've made a pretty simple one with a katakana font. Not the generic one, but not too fancy either.
-If your own design doesn't matter, can I put stars on the design or text only? 8)

Any info much appreciated, thanks.

I honestly wish I knew. but alas I don't.
Why don't you ask in the chat? We have a Native japanese speaker there if I recall, I guess that is your best bet.
Hello everyone!
I am currently a newbie at Japanese and if I happen to say something awkward or rude it is not my intention!
If I do I ask for forgiveness in advance!!
