Are you saying that Japan has lethal injection and the electric chair? If so, that is incorrect. Japan uses hanging, done in an appallingly inept fashion.

I guess it's a dying art. People these days couldn't hang even to save a life.

When I was in middle school, I read a Sci-fi novel where the main character was trying to get off the Earth because everyone was stupid. Every day they would watch the same shows with the same jokes, and laugh no matter how many times they said, "Take my wife, please." Interestingly, it didn't have a happy end. Most sci-fi books then had rather macabre endings IIRC. I always wondered if that was an actual RL reference.

The thing with "Take my wife, please" is that it was actually a very funny and original joke at the time. Then it got run into the ground so much that it's used as an archetypal example of a bad/corny joke.
