Ghosts/Spirits in Japan.

Postby Firefly » Tue 09.12.2006 10:32 pm

I was wondering what kinds of ghosts there are in Japan. Like I know of the Noppera Bo and the Yuki Onna but what other ones are there? I don't have much info on the ones I do know about and information is rather scarce...

Also are there any haunted places in Japan? Like actual ghosts that inhabit an house or hotel room or something?

Any info will be appreciated!

There aren't any ghosts in Japan. There are only goblins and orcs that inhabit the dark recesses of bridges and closets.

There aren't any goblins under beds, though, because everyone sleeps on futons. It's tragic, really - Goblins are forced outside into the unforgiving nights.

They do have several severe cases of bed bugs, though.

Yeah, there are. All over the place. Well, if they actually exist, that is. ;)

Check the sliding closets. You might find a small, pale japanese boy that sounds like a cat. ... My dream house was a japanese styled one, sit on the floor, eat on the table which is on the floor, sleep on the floor, sliding doors; but after watching the original japanese The Grudge... wow i feel so traumatized by that movie somehow.

There's a ghost who lives in a tree next to a small mountain road near here. It's a young woman with long white hair wearing a long white kimono. The only problem is that she absolutely refuses to haunt ME. I've driven by at all hours of the night, and I've even parked my car and searched the area, but no luck. Other people swear they have seen her, so she must have something against me. :(

Reminds me of the song, Goodnight, Demon Slayer, Goodnight by Voltaire:

There's a monster that lives beneath your bed
Oh, for crying out loud!
That's a futon on the floor!
He must be flat as a boar!

If you like Anime, get the Ghost Stories DVDs. Pretty good series, most based on traditional school ghosts. DVDs include plenty of information behind each ghost legend or what the ones in the series are based on.

Those ghosts always seem to be able to sense when a sceptic is around. They seem to be scared of them.

THere is also a fun series of three "youkai" films:

Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare
Yokai hyaku monogatari (100 Ghosts)
Yokai Monsters 3: Along With Ghosts

They're kinda cheesy, but they're fun.
