Homosexuality is much more taboo in Japan. People are (maybe) nicer towards gay people, but that's because no one EVER talks about it. In America, homosexuality is always coming up in the news, angering the conservatives and getting everyone all riled up.

from what i remember, being gay in japan is not a bad thing.. being openly gay in japan is a bad thing.. but as i mentioned before, not being involved in that community I can't really tell you what the viewpoint is anymore.
