I know(or at least have heard of) most of the Japanese holidays, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me which one's they get off?

Which holidays we get off can vary widely, depending on what sort of work one does.

Do you mean like summer vacation, March break (spring break), and christmas break.. Holidays like that?

Unless you're in the service industry (or a particularly sadistic office) you get all national holidays off. If a national holiday falls on a Sunday, the next monday is a "replacement holiday"

If you're looking for school-related dates, those will generally vary from prefecture to prefecture (I believe), but still include the national holidays.

I may be wrong, but I think Japan changed a few dates for some holidays since I made that page:

this maybe a dumb question....but wait, there are no dumb questions right? okay so here we go... i heard that in korea, when it's your birthday, you have to take everyone to dinner or buy them something. is it the same in japan?

i would normally take off of work on my birthday, do they allow that in asian counties?

It is a dumb question in that you lump all Asian countries together.

I don't think that's what he was doing. If he had said "In America we can take the day off on our birthday; is it the same in Japan?" would you have assumed he was lumping Japan and America together?

And what about questions like "Chinese characters are prevalent in Korea and Vietnam, are they common in Japan too?" or "Buddhism is common in Korea and China, is it common in Japan too?" or "Koreans eat with chopsticks, do the Japanese eat with chopsticks too?"?

thanks keatonatron. yeah sometimes it's the weird questions that may get you weird answers. like i'd never expect that japanese to play Auld Lang Syne at the stores before closing....until a person from japan told me that. but i'd never ask it, because it's so random.

i don't think i'd ever lump all asians together, but mike, you all have to admit that they do have a lot in common. now if i said "in france have this holiday....so in japan do they have it?" now that would be pretty weird huh?

koreans use metal chopsticks and japanese uses wood chopsticks. koreans uses scissors to cut their meat....would it be dumb for me to ask what japanese cut their meet with?
