Well that might explain some of your recent posts.

don't underestimate the power of stupidity. You'd be surprised at the number of people who apparently have no sense of smell and will just drink anything given to them. The moment I receieved the cup, I knew what had happened but them.....

You should see me when I haven't been horizontal for three or four days.
(Taking another slug and toddling off to the land of nod for real this time).

Geez, I'm gone for a day and I've started a debate lol.
Here in Britain, there are alot of binge drinkers (9 times out of 10, they are Neds, or Chavs, as they are called in England) so usually when people ask if you drink it means getting drunk.
It's been a long time since the last quiet Friday or Saturday night, you can here their drunken chants even when they are several streets away.

If I've gone 24 hours without sleep I'm not a safe driver. I start hallucianating and of course there is the slight difficulty of keeping my eyes open. But it's the Elephants running across the road, or watching two cars merge into a power ranger that make me nervous.
Does your truck not have a sleeper cabin?

It has a narrow shelf that masquerades as a bunk.
I didn't say I have gone three or four days without sleep. I said I have gone three or four days without being horizontal.

For me it's the same thing. I've always been jealous of my brother's and sister's and other people's ability to sleep sitting up. Even if leaning heavily to one side or the other. It's like in High school. I might fall asleep sitting up, but I usually woke up at the point my head hit the desk. Sometimes I forget that other people can sleep without lying down.

The absolute most extreme example of such behavior I've ever been guilty of is having fallen sound asleep while standing up....as the deck of the guided missile cruiser rolled and pitched beneath my feet.

Aha, so you're a (ex) Navy man. I sure feel safe now, knowing that the brave men and women commanding our defensive military ships have the ability to do so while sleeping.

You think anything I was on could have been other than offensive?
We worked 7/7/5/5 24/7. Seven hours on duty, seven hours off. Five hours on, five hours off. Lather, rinse, repeat.
And little things like refueling the ship, cleaning, conducting maintenance, or manhandling food or equipment aboard generally seemed to like to happen during my "off" hours, so I could pass up unproductively lounging around in my bunk and go bear a hand in those fun and wholesome activities.

Well, my feelings of safety have nothing to do with our offensive capabilities (so I had to change my post to fit). And I don't really believe in "pre-emptive strikes" as a form of defense.

Oh, you were talking about offensive military capabilities. My bad, as the young people say.

Keatonatron (yes we have hi-jacked another thread) statistics back up your theory. If it were known what really happens to our young men and women in uniform, there would be even more upheaval. friendly fire is the least of our worries. lack of paying attention to detail, lack of focus, and just outright laziness gets more of our uniformed men and women dead than enemy bullets and other.
