I'm neither.

I'm a Chinese Canadian.

But that didn't stop me from loving Japanese.

I always thought it was funny to refer to USAmericans at yankees

speaking of the poll, I'm rather surprised there are more Asians than Japanese tallied in currently.

Well, the site is for learning Japanese, which most Japanese people aren't interested in. Plus, most learners can't afford to live in Japan. There are many people in Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, and China that are interested in Japan. Also, according to recent discussions, India, Russia, Israel, and all those other places are also considered Asia.

That's faulty logic...unless you're talking about colonial times...

My family is from Scotland, but has been living in the US since the 1700's.

His family is from Japan, but has been living in the US since the (we'll say) 1800's.

Are you saying I'm American and he's Japanese?

I am a native American. I was born in the US, as were my parents and grandparents. My mother's paternal grandfather and maternal great-grandparents immigrated from Ireland; other than that, my ancestry is from settlers in the various New England and New Netherlands colonies, so far as I can tell. I am a descendant of immigrants; I am not an immigrant myself.

I APOLOGIZED!ok,i understand your point. If you want to talk about sterotyping, you should understand that everything is a sterotype.Race is a sterotype.I world was not born with black lines separating the counties and headings over them. So, I realize that there are people from all over.I ASSUMED since this site is in English, that there would be a majority of english speaking people(Americans mostly?) or people from Japan(this is Japanesepage.com).Im sorry for offending everyone. That was my first post ever,Im glad people welcomed me so well?

Naiko-chan, you were wrong to word your title and question that way, a fact you acknowledged and for which you apologized. Unfortunately some people seem to look for any excuse to take cheap shots at Americans, something that I personally think is inappropriate in these forums.

I would also point out that calling people from the United States "Americans" is a centuries old, universally practiced convention, and I think it is silly to criticize Americans for calling themselves by the same word that the rest of the world uses. I am quite sure that when an Australian in Melbourne says "American" he is not talking about someone from Bolivia. ;)

Oh, and welcome to the site - it usually is a fairly friendly place. :)

bah, you asked a question.. the people who got offended for your question should just relax a bit.. they could answer neither and then tell where they are from without getting bent outa shape.. :o

it's just another indicator that more people try to be offended than informed.

I am American and proud to be of this country. My ancestors came here from Germany and Ireland and they left those countries looking for something better.. I am here because of them. I do believe I have some Native American blood as well, but it's harder to document..
