Are there many gothic subcultures in Japan ?
If so how popular are they?

I have yet to meet a single ostrogoth in my time in Japan. What a shame, too, as they're so much nicer than visigoths.
You're probably not as smart as you think.

Should be more no? "Gothic lolita" comes to mind. As well as the horrorpunk look (Balzac comes to mind)

Meh, goth is goth. If I had to classify them, it would turn into:

Goth with a hat.
Goth with tall boots.
Goth with a piercing.
Goth with makeup.

And various mixtures of the above.

Another fad I will be glad to see the death of.

The fun is going to be 20 or 30 years from now when the former goths' kids/grandkids dig through photo albums and find pictures.

Jeez, I recently found - and made the mistake of showing my kids - pictures of myself from my youth in late 70s / early 80s. Must have been some powerful drugs we were doing back then to believe we actually looked good :)
