Don't say Aishiteru if you like a Japanese girl

Post by sexyjunko » Sat 11.18.2006 1:11 am

I think many Gaijin say this when they like Japanese girls. Its better to say Daisuki ( I like you) than Aishiteru (I love you). Japanese guys do not say this very often and many Japanese girls are very shocked to hear Gaijin say it so freely and common. Just some advices. Maybe this is just a cultural difference :)

I think ”I love you” also gets thrown around a little too liberally in English.

Although I never say 愛してる、 whatever I say to Japanese women never seems to work... :|

Generally I don't hear of Japanese men complimenting their wives/girlfriends very often.
-You are looking lovely today.
-That such and such really suits you and the like.

Then again, this coming from a single man holds no creditability.

I think in English many people say "I love you" too freely, which really makes it lose its power. Some people will say it after they've been dating someone for 1 week :o

the phrase "I love you" in English pisses me off. I actually have to say it on a regular basis just to be polite! What kind of screwed up....
dang, this brings back too many annoying memories. The rarity of the Japanese equivalent will be a very welcomed relief when I finally get to Japan

Especially in middle school. I remember when my current boyfriend (of 4 months now) asked me why I never told him, "I love you." I told him why. I told him that I felt that people use it too much & either don't really love the person or just don't understand the difference between love and like.

At least he understood. When I told him, he was shocked. I will say that I love him, because I really do. I just don't feel the need to tell everyone that I love them. Just to those I would die for. But you know, I actually thought that 大好き was close in meaning to 愛してる.

Maybe they can't see you, with being in a different century and all.

Oh I have an idea, buy two ice cream cones and then tell a girl "I have no one to share this ice cream with." Ahhhh....The joys of ice cream.

And maybe try wearing 21st century garb.

That would be hilarious.... *Thinks*.... *Gets out camera*.... i'll be back later

[Edit: Oh, and to contribute to the OT, a lot of people say "I like them" to their friends, but to the actual person, they say "I love you". It sounds weird if you say "I love them" because the only response you would get back would be "You barely know them!" but if you "like" them, that just shows you're interested. Most of the time, the people really do barely know the person.... No one shoots for just a friendship for some reason. I don't quite get it. If I wanted to get to know someone, I don't ask them "to go out with me", which is the case why many are enemies in my school.]
