I will either go to Japan or Thailand in may for 3 weeks. I have competing culture/language interests in Japan and Thailand.
A good reason to go to Thailand is that there will likely be a durian festival, and I like durians a lot... (durian is a fruit). May will also be the hottest time which may not be a good reason to go. I also know more Thai than I know Japanese, which is very little in both cases.
A good reason to go to Japan is that I've already been to Thailand and haven't been to Japan.
So, is there something particularly interesting to visit Japan in May for? I don't like touristy things. I would pay to avoid "attractions". Would pay to avoid a tourist group etc.
