I get mine from a Japanese grocery store, but I guess those aren't so common (there's one in Columbus because there's a big Honda factory here).

I would love to try natto. I hear that nihonjin find it amazing to find Americans who enjoy it. I'd love to be one of them. Unfortunately, I don't know where I could get some. Perhaps in Pittsburgh...
I found an on-line store that sells natto. I'm surprised it's not expensive.

I've never tried natto. My mother didn't care for things with a strong smell, so from what I've heard about it, I can see why we never had any in the house.

All I can say to you is "Go for it & good luck."

I love unagi, and once ordered the grilled innards out of curiosity. Will never do that again. :o

If you do try natto, I recommend eating it over rice; I think people make the mistake of trying it directly out of the package, but even most Japanese don't eat it like that. It's sort of like finding out if you like a certain sauce by just eating a spoonful of it.

Lot's of people who don't like basashi. I think they don't like it just because of what it is.

If you don't know what it is GOOD! Don't ask just eat it! :p :D

(for those of you dont know what it is, youll probably have to go to japan to get it. its not something i think shops in western countries would be comfortable selling)

nothing wrong with horse meat.. it's gamier and bit more wild than beef. it also has abit more redness to it, I hear this is because horses move about more than cows do..

I have tried horse meat both grilled and raw.. in both cases I was pleasantly surprised.

oh yeah, the fat content in horse meat is really low..

if it's raw horse meat, there are a lot of specialized butchers in France (though less and less as time goes on) who do sell horse meat, and it can be eaten raw, as well as cooked. Not being a great fan of meat, I don't usaually eat it. But it can't be worse than the camel steak I had to eat some time ago (only source of proteins around)

I've never had a bad reaction to Japanese food, except a little too much wasabi at times, but then I have never tried fugu;

I had seen one of those crazy shows they show in japan (I try not to watch too much tv out here since it boggles the brain) and they showed that if you drink soda after eating a bunch of wasabi its like an immediate fix for it. And we had Natto for lunch the other day and I cant stand the smell of it. But thats a story for another thread. :)
