Japanese heritage visa?
So...
me and my friend want to stay in Japan for a year or so.
I am half Japanese and he is 1/3.
We both have at least 1 parent that was born and raised in Japan, and we both have family in Japan that we know and plan to stay with.
We were wondering if there was such thing as a Heritage visa?
I read something about it. Some guy I know has a Japanese American friend who calls it a Nikkei visa, and she has to take in her mom's birth certificate and proof of relatives living in Japan to receive it, but I can't find it on any site.

RE: Japanese heritage visa?
I'm guessing it is probably the very last one on this page:
http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/04.html
Have you considered the radical step of contacting the Japanese Embassy?
(How the heck does a person get to be 1/3 something?)

I was wondering the same thing...
Maybe 5 of his great-great-grandparents were Japanese (5/16) and he just rounds it up.

You're probably not as smart as you think.

I put:
japanese embassy us
into Google and that worthless search engine took a whole 0.18 seconds to return results with the Japanese Embassy site as the first result!
