interesting as I had always thought eh professor to be the one considered elite/or to deserve the san respect from the classroom. the fact he uses any honorics at all to me is amazing. maybe it would be easier for him just to refer to them as their given name with no suffix and the issue would be moot?

somehow I don't think it's as easy as that.

They're not trivial matters, that's the point. It's easy for you (a white male, I assume) to sit aside and tell women they shouldn't feel offended or threatened by certain things, but try being in their shoes and then maybe you wouldn't say that.

You are right in a sense. Sometimes they aren't trivial. I am not trying to compare to ligitimate cases. With the information given, i would classify this as trivial. If he treats her differntly because of her sex, then that would be legitimate. But, to use a suffix, that he probably used a million times, on one occasion is stretching the boundaries of sexual harassment alltogether. Granted, this is just my opinion.

It's not considered sexual harassment as it stands, it's considered "power harassment", so yes, it would still apply even if the professor was a woman.
