Have a textbook or grammar book that you find particularly helpful? What about a learning tip to share with others?

I need a pen pal

I figured the best way to keep up with japanese is to talk to someone at least by email every day or so. That way we can both keep up with japanese! Who wants to join me....i think this is the right section to post this, sumimasen if it isn't.

Maybe you could try http://lang-8.com/?l=en - This isn't so much for penpals, but rather a blog site. Here you can ask people to correct your text when you go wrong. I've found this to be much more helpful than having a penpal, since most of the penpals I've spoken to tend to ignore correcting, even when you make a point of correcting their english when they ask for it. ^^;

But if you really do want a direct correspondance, try http://www.japan-guide.com 's penpal section. There are thousands of ads in the language exchange section.

Hi, I'm Brenda. I've been learning Japanese for around 3 years, however, the progress is very slow. As you said, we need practise in order to improve. Here's my email - brendalaicm83@gmail.com. Feel free to drop me a mail anytime. ;)

another great opportunity is mixi, which is sort of is an invitation-only japanese myspace...

as soon as you're registered you're actually being flooded with messages, it's great!
and i already have a few mixi buddies in my msn and skype to communicate with ^^

well, i'm not very far yet thanks to my slacking but it actually gives me a bad conciousness about that, so i started to learn again, lol

plus, native speakers who are also capable of english are worth their weight in gold when it comes to explaining things the textbook doesn't mention ^^

of course in mixi, chances are high that you'll recieve messages completely in japanese but hey, nothing rikaichan cannot solve, haha

I need an English penpal who knows a little Japanese. If I had a Japanese penpal I think I'd get lost, lol.

That sort of defeats the purpose of learning the language doesn't it?

Sounds like you are more looking for a study partner.
