How to change verb into -te form!

Post by Tabetai » Fri 11.14.2008 9:47 pm

Here is how to quickly change a verb in dictionary form into the -te form. Just memorize this poem..

Ku-ide
Gu-ide
Utsuru-te(tte)
Numubu-nde
Su-shite

Take your verb.. For example, taberu. You see that it ends with the -ru. So find the word that has -ru in it and remove the last syllable (-ru) and add whatever is after the dash on that word in the poem.. So taberu becomes tabete.

Shinu <----> Shinde

Hashiru <----> Hashite

Nomu <----> Nonde

Ganbaru <----> Ganbatte

Au <----> Atte

Chigau <----> Chigatte

P.S. I DID NOT MAKE THIS. Give credit to bumnumba1 on youtube (The BEST Japanese teacher ever. Not reccomended for kids, though)

We learned something similar to this when I was taking Japanese 101 at university. The order was a little different, but we learned to sing it to the tune of "Silver Bells".

I remembered the あかさたなはまやらわ order of the kana graph by singing it to the tune of the song we use for remembering the English alphabet......あいうえおかき くけこさしすせ そたち つてと なーに ぬねの Now I know my あかさたな, Next I'll learn my はまやらわ.

Totally idiotic, but it worked.
Never underestimate my capacity for pettiness.
