Learning kanji by grade or by JLPT level?

I was wondering, which is better, learning kanji by Grade or by JLPT level?
Is there any difference in which kanji you learn? Or does it even matter which of those 2 ways you learn the kanji?

Personally, I don't think it matters.

You learn them either way...so why should it matter, really, which is better?

(By the way: you're asking for an opinionated answer...so, bewarned).

erm..i dunno..but im learning by the JLPT level..beginner's level of course..:p

If you will take the tests one by one it is probably best to learn them by JLPT levels.. But if you don't care about the tests, or only want to take 1 kyuu i guess either way of learning is good.

I don't really like learning the Grade Level Kanji. I've always preferred learning radicals and base kanji first (Not sure if I'm using the right jargon, but I mean learning the kanji that other kanji are based on). I'm not too sure how the JLPT system progresses, but I would agree with Daisuke that if your main goal is to pass the JLPT test, then you should study in a JLPT fashion.

I think following the JLPT way would be much more logical for a student of Japanese. You will learn kanji more relevant to the things you want to say/write, and typically kanji that are similar or grouped together (like 'make' and 'use', and 'borrow' and 'lend').
