Bad habits one shouldn't become used to?
I'm about to begin studying Hiragana, and writing it. But before I begin, I would like to know what to avoid in terms of bad habits... Because they can be so difficult to break. :@
Like, for example, would writing symbols in any other stroke order be a bad thing?

That would be a 'yes'.

May I ask why? As long as the character is legible, does it really matter? I know a lot of people don't write romanized characters the same way.

Another important thing is that after you know the hiragana, try to avoid romanji as best as you can. If you get too used to romanji, it will make it MUCH harder to be able to read kana quickly.

Yup and thats one of the reasons i suck at Japanese, I was to lazy to learn kana before i started grammar so i read romaji.. now it takes me forever to read kana.

Because writing it in the correct order will help other read it if it's sloppy, and knowing the right order will help you read sloppy script.

And also, to be perfectly honest, characters written in the wrong order (especially kanji) really look weird. It's really hard to write a character in the wrong order and have it look right, as the stroke order is *generally* the easiest / fastest way to write the character correctly.

Also, if u don't practise writing kana correctly, it will be alot harder by the time u hit the kanji, where more strokes are involved. Not sure if this is true, but i heard that there was a time when the Chinese govenment actually banned ball-point pens in schools because it gave rise to bad handwriting...

ROMAJI ROMAJI ROMAJI, what a mess that is, Iv seen ち as usual "chi" and I have seen it as "TE" in a few spots. lol there is a post here for a kana RPG game http://www.thejapanesepage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4250 I had some problems with it due to some things did not match up, I believe ひ was "bi" or something like that in the game. Along with a few more so I just gave up, I was hoping the game would give the sound and then you match it up, not using Romaji. oh well.
btw AJBryant I took your little key board man, thats is awsome.
correction "TE" should be "TI" lol

I doubt you've seen it as te, unless it was a typo. Perhaps ti?
That's mainly the difference between typed Japanese (non-hepburn) and correctly written romaji (hepburn, or hepburn esque)

Since summer started, i havent written anything in english nor kana/kanji for about a month now and getting back into it is nothing but the usual, but i noticed my hands arent accustomed to it and i end up writing all ugly like a child
anywho, if you practice kana and kanji, it should be sacond nature when writing it and you shouldnt have to think about what you write, it just comes out ..

ローマ字
One I got into before I took a Japanese class was writing さ, ち, and り with the pieces connected as I had seen in typewritten fonts, in the case of ri connected in the middle.
Then in katakana I didn't write シンツ correctly. In shi and n, the first two strokes are more slanted to the left and the third stroke is more to the left and ends at the bottom of those strokes.
Also katakana チ has the third stroke slanted so it's not confused with the kanji for 1000, 千
