Kanji the Japanese way.
I've just come across this page that has tests and practice material for Japanese school kids. For example this covers kanji learned in the first year at school.
Simply click an item on the right hand menu, write (e.g. paper & pencil) what you think goes in the white squares then check if you got it right by highlighting them.

That's a great site. It's amazing how vast a vocabulary young kids have. I've gone through 3 textbooks of Japanese and numerous other materials and nevertheless my vocabulary is still full of holes. E.g. I've never heard of 月とすっぽん which is apparently an expression for 1st graders.
Anyway this site will definitely help fill some holes! Thanks Paul.

That is a fun site, and I think it could be very useful. Some of the expressions come from famous sayings and songs, so it's not only good for kanji and general reading , but for learning culture as well.
Just a note. On my Mac I couldn't get the site to work with Safari or Modzilla, but it worked fine with IE.

Well what do you know - you're right. I can only say that at _my_ screen resolution I didn't need to scroll down.
If you can't see the bottom of the text / menu I suggest you try shrinking the text size (<CTRL>+- on Firefox)
