Hand-written, I believe that two strokes is correct. Some fonts will connect the two strokes.

My software and flash cards both say it’s a single stroke, and they both say that it can be seen as a two stroke or a single stroke. If I look on the net there are some places that say single stroke and other places that say two strokes. oh well, just have to keep them both in my head.

I'm positive that writing it with 2 strokes is correct. Not sure about the 1 stroke version though.

I see it written as one stroke or two in fonts all the time, and its just a little variation.
But in handwriting, it is nearly always written as two strokes, well, at least with all my penpals they always wrote it as two strokes. I guess this could be similar in the latin alphabet to the typed /a/ and how it is written in hand writing.

i'm not sure if i should post this here or make a new thread... but while studying, i have some trouble when writing the difference between い and り. i have seen the い written really funny like.. an english 'u' with a line on the right corner.. and the り just confuses me.. i find it easier to write with one stroke.. but how are these two recognized in writing?
i'm a beginner! so bear with me please!!

The い in handwriting usually looks just like its typed, with the left vertical line a little bit longer than the right one, and the left line usually has a little hook on the bottom. り has the left vertical bar very short compared to the right side. Once you see it in writing enough it will get easier
It took me a while to get used to writing and reading シ/ツand メ^ン

The two strokes of い should be about equal length. It can be drawn vertical, or it can be canted in the following direction: \ \. If you draw い as \ \, it is supposed to look normal to a native.
The two strokes of り are different lengths, and should be vertical.
