Hey! It's me again. I didn't get a straight answer last time I asked about materials for learning kana, so I am going to ask about a specific product: Tuttle Kana Flash Cards.

Are these good for learning and reincforcing kana? And if not, can I get a straight answer on some good kana learning materials (sorry if I sound rude)?

But why buy some cards when there are plenty of quiz sites on the net?

Hmm....

Check this section of the achives on Japancast.net. Hitomi-sensei posted all the info on how to write them, plus practice. They're titled "Hirigana/Katakana Master Plan #--". They begin a few pages back with number 1, so you'll have to search a little, but it's a good resource.

Hey, thanks, that looks great for studying, but what about just learning them in the first place?

I made my own little kana flash cards with some cardboard type paper and a pen. I worked on each different sound groups and once I could look at it and know what it was, I moved on to another sound group. Then when I moved to a new group, I would review the group earlier with the one I just learned. I dont know if this is something you'd want to do, but it worked really well for me. I dont think I know what Tuttle Kana Flash Cards. Sorry if I didnt help out much.

flash cards are not good for learning anything. But they are good for reinforcing what you learned. Learn your kanji and reading through your normal textbook. Then seperate out the flash cards for the kanji you learned and review those.

I've never used tuttle flashcard but the tuttle guide to writing books are pretty good. They have kana and kanji. (2 volumes)

I own those two flashcard sets bought from the TheJapanShop.com and really like them.

but..

I've come to find out that It's true what most people around here say about them. They won't do it all for you. Trying to study hundreds and kanji/kana with just the cards and try to remember all the meanings and readings just won't work. It's to much information with no real connection to their usage (expecpt juukogo).

Seeing the Kanji/kana in sentences and learning from there while having the flashcards as a backup is much more effective. So I do recomend flashcards as long as they are used in the right way.
