Learn how to write with pencil?
Is it better to learn how to write Japanese in pencil?

Well it makes it easier to rub out (erase) your mistakes.
Don't complain to me that people kick you when you're down. It's your own fault for lying there

And what's wrong with that?
Seriously, it doesn't matter a damn whether you use a ballpoint, a rolling-ball, a felt tip, a pencil, a mechanical pencil, or a stick in the sand. Just PRACTISE.

I use mechanical pencil. Easier to write the more detailed kanji with one.
We were only allowed to use a pencil in Japanese class. Sensei didn't like us scratching out mistakes make with a pen. Also, he said it was because students in Japan will use pencil.
I like the stick in the sand idea best, though. Or, if you can't get sand, try dust, dirt, or mud.

Be sure to get a good pencil with a thin lead. Mechanicals are the best for this purpose. Get one that you know you'll fall in love with. It might not be the prettiest, but it'll be yours.

Yep, mechanical pencils are definitely better for writing characters more neatly in Japanese. They make English writing look better too! ^_^
