Rikaichan and the Names Dictionary

Postby Rounin T » Tue 10.31.2006 2:48 pm

Does anyone use the names dictionary with rikaichan? I can't figure out what it even does. When I downloaded it, this is what I envisioned: whenever I mouse over the name of a person or place I don't know, rikaichan will happily tell me how it's pronounced, and possibly some other useful bit of biographical/geographical information.

As far as I can tell, it does nothing of the sort. As far as I can tell, the only thing it does is squat in 50 MB of my RAM. Rikaichan isn't any more helpful than it was before. Even with names like 小泉純一郎 and 横浜, it will only tell me about each individual 字. I've tried all the dictionary order options in rikaichan, and I've disabled "delay loading of the names dictionary."

Can anyone tell me what the names dictionary does, or how to use it properly?

While hovering over the name, hit shift a couple of times. The first time will bring up the kanji information, the second time will bring up the names.

Yes, the shift key. You must have caught my message in the seconds before I edited "space" to "shift."

AHA! It works! Thanks, richvh and aKuMu.

Of course, it was in the documentation, which I scanned twice for the answer but failed to see it. バカだなぁ、私。
