I was trying to upload a ".wmv" file, which was sound only, but I failed.
Do I need to convert that file into something like ".avi"?

Coco-san, if it is larger than '2 megs' or so... email it to me (i think my email limit is 10M for attachments), or contact me tomorrow. we'll make it work somehow. i would guess that the video site does not handle uploads without video....

that's the thing... i'm not sure if the video site will accept a file that does not have a video part. i would imagine that the 'video conversion' phase would give an error and fail because it couldn't find a video part to convert. but it's been a long time since i've played with the video site.

i expect that Clay-san (being the master of video creation ) could just add a static picture for the video part and things would probably work.

acceptable files... the video site uses an Open Source video converter (mplayer/mencoder/ffmpeg) to convert the files. most video formats should work, but you may want to steer clear of some of the Microsoft .wmv files if they have DRM in them. if you can make them, i think that .mpg or .avi would almost always work.

it's terribly difficult to explain video/audio codecs and container formats...

Coco-san, where does your listening material come from? do you make it yourself?

I downloaded "Windows photo story" and I'm going to use the sounds with some meaningless photos.
I think I can convert .wmv to .avi.

Coco-san, cool! that will probably work. you can even try .wmv, it is probably the 'no video' that causes problems... if you have difficulty, let us know. i have a web page where you can upload very large files with no problem.

Zen-san, I could convert the file into .avi, which content is same as the .wmv file (3.65MB) that I sent it you before. I tried to upload it but failed again. Then I tried to send it to you but also failed. Finally I realized the reason of my failure. Despite it's only 151 seconds video, the file had have been 3.91GB!!


So I couldn't even send it to you. ( congrats! Who wants to get 3.91GB junk-mail?)

I really wonder how it became 3.91GB.

結局、「. wmv」ファイルは使えないのでしょうか。
この方法だと毎回どなたかの手を煩わすことになってしまいそうなので諦めざるを得ません。

あと、何度もしつこくアップロードしたときに思ったのですが、撮影月日を記入する際、もし可狽ﾈら年選択を降順(2007を上にする)にした方が操作しやすいかもしれません。1900年-1990年に撮影した映像をアップロードする人は少ないと思われるので。
