m (_ _) m

Post by Blue » Tue 01.17.2006 3:03 pm

Hi everybody!

I got interested in Japan several years ago after reading *cough* James Clavell's "Shogun"...
Japan's history and different manga and anime added spice to my new passion.
Taking Japanese classes besides my biolgoy studies increased my interest. And now, after one year studying in Tokyo, I can just say that Japan is one of the most fascinating countries I know!

Looking forward to a life full of learing how to understand Japan! ;)
Be nice to me... よろしくお願いします!

Thanx!
The "m (_ _) m"? It's somebody bowing. The "m"'s are the hands and the rest is the head with the "_" eyes down! It's mostly used as "sumimasen (sorry)" or "please (onegaishimasu)". As far as I know this is used for almost every situation where you make a bow in Japan. And for me it was the "introduction-bow"! *lol*
Japanese people use so many of these signs, especially with mobile phones. I think they are so cute!

I dunno about the Japanese but in English (__) is someone mooning you. But yea, Japanese uses () to signify the head so it is probably correct.

Meh. You are so lucky! I've been self studying for three years now but I really didn't get into it til' a little while ago. It helped, it did, but I'm not looking for Night School or something. =/ I don't think I could last much longer without classes. =D
