格好いいだね〜
I need to learn kanji, and I am learning more vocabulary in Japanese. I already know about 150+ kanji, and am reviewing first grade kanji before I move on to second grade.
I can read pretty good in Japanese, but I still scan katakana and kanji under Rikai. I am American, and I love Japanese culture in food and well, everything else.
Greet me please.

RE: 格好いいだね〜
It is should be 格好いいですね or 格好いいね
Never mix だ with i-adjectives
Edit: ACTUALLY, that brings up something interesting... Just for kicks, I looked up 格好 in the dictionary, and noticed 格好いい is classified as an na-adjective! In the examples, it lists 格好いいじゃない。。。 However, 格好いい is supposed to be the shorter version of 格好がいい. Instead of 格好いいじゃない? I've been saying 格好よくない?
What's everyone else's experiences with this word?? 格好よかった sounds better than 格好いいだった, but that might just be me...

That's a good question. We should start a thread in Grammer about this.
In fact, I'll go do that now...

格好いいじゃない is not saying the same thing as 格好よくない. One is negative. The other is positive.

Right. Figured it out in the other post.
I was just confused because the WWWJDIC had it listed as an na-adjective, and this fella here used it like one so I thought maybe he knew something I didn't.

This is the sound of my brain popping.
I thought -nai was negative. How can one be positive?

Think of the English: "Isn't that great?" -- note that that is actually a NEGATIVE sentence (Is it NOT great?) but the meaning is a positive one.
格好いいじゃない is *exactly* the same thing.

RE: 格好いいだね〜

ところで、I have yet to see a Japanese person write 格好いい. My cell even pops it up as カッコイイ. There are several differences between かっこよくない and カッコイイじゃない. かっこよくない is the negative form and means "not cool" which is a nicer way of saying "かっこわるい" (disgusting). Where they can mean the same is "Isn't that cool?" (not neccesarily sarcastic). However, カッコイイじゃない is only said by girls and is very feminine.

Probably because it's かっこう , not かっこ (which is 括弧, or "brackets")
