Battle Royale English Translation

So I have a copy of the Battle Royale novel that the film and manga are based on, and its a translated copy put out by VIZ a few years ago. Has anyone read it in Japanese?

I'm finding the language in the English translation is pretty bland, and I was wondering if anyone who's read it in Japanese could say the same.
