Japanese Poetry
Hello there folks,
I wanted to ask your advice regarding a suitable Japanese poem that I could have a shot at handwriting for my wife's anniversary present.
A famous Japanese (love) poem would be perfect. I have no idea about Japanese poetry other than a few Haiku. I would prefer a poem about 2-3 stanzas long, so that it would fit neatly into an A4 frame. I am going to have a bash at calligraphy.
I am JLPT 5, so a translation would be awesome as well.
Know of any good sites that I may peruse?
Thanks in advance.
WF.

Re: Japanese Poetry
How about this one by Ono no Komachi?
夢ぢには
足も休めず
かよへども
うつつにひと目
見しごとはあらず
A modern Japanese translation;
夢の中の通い路では足を休めることもなく、
絶えず通っているというのに、
現実では一目逢ったごとくでなはなく、
まったく比較にならない。
An English translation;
Upon the path of dreams
My feet don't rest,
Constantly trailing to you, yet
In reality, a single glimpse:
Not even that have I had of you

Don't complain to me that people kick you when you're down. It's your own fault for lying there

Re: Japanese Poetry
Thanks for that.
That name sounds familiar to me. I think I might have read some poems by them before.
Thanks very much for the help.
