Be my thesaurus.

Post by paul_b » Sun 11.05.2006 7:49 am

No, seriously, this thread is to collect alternative words and phrases for things you don't find in real thesauruses (thesauri ?).

First phrase "Bugged me", not as in 'hidden recording device' or 'insect' the 気になった type of "bugged me".

"Bug" in the sense of "annoy" could be said:

むっとする
しゃくにさわる

But come to think of it, these would both probably be in a thesaurus, so maybe I don't quite understand what it is you're asking for.

Hmm, it looks like I use "bugged me" with a rather wider usage than you do.

[That] bothered me.
[That] annoyed me.
[That] cheesed me off.
[That] pissed me off.
[That] got on my nerves.
[That] got under my skin.

Meh, I couldn't have phrased it much less clearly if I'd been a civil servant. :D

Thesaurus.com gives ten pages of results, about a third of which appear to be what you're looking for.

Don't forget "gets my goat"! That's one of my favourites.

"boils my blood"
"shivs me off"
"cranks me over"
"torques me off"

That really...
+ shoots my duck
+ cracks my chill
+ yanks my tanks
+ (verbs) my (noun)

You're...
+ like a mosquito having a good day
+ like a chink in my chain
+ like ants in my pants

You...
+ suck

Hey,...
+ you're like a fricken (noun) at a (noun) party

I need to sleep...
Sometimes I think that I'm afraid of thinking, and that scares me.
