har har, chrischi, that got you at a weird angle. It looks like you're half elf. Still a good picture though.

Maybe, but I'm a bit worried it might come off as a bit "offensive."Mike Cash wrote:
Any chance of you sharing a pic of the project when you get it finished?
My project was on the Spanish Inquisition, visual is about the torture (though now I'm not even sure if the type of torture I've illustrated was even used by the Spanish), so meh. Wheel torture ahoy.
RE: Pics thread 〜2〜
I don't care about the content of the project. I was more interested in getting a straight-on look at your talent with the brush.
Never underestimate my capacity for pettiness.

Bah, here it is, sorry about the icky glare from the camera (the painting is too big to scan)Mike Cash wrote:

^you can see on the wall where I had outlined with oil pastels...
I only started it on Saturday or so and finished it on Monday and had to turn it in the next day, so it was rushed (oil paint = long drying time). Not really that good, I was a bit stupid and started off with oil pastels first (because I thought I didn't have any more paint). And I didn't have any gesso, so that created a funny texture and made it hard to paint over, but I really do like the big blue curtain and the torch.

I think you did a very admirable job on it. You obviously have talents. The only thing I have ever been able to draw is flies.
Like you, I have a sneaking suspicion that the Spanish Inquisition didn't make use of the wheel. If you're not familiar with the details of what "breaking on the wheel" entailed, do yourself a favor and don't google it.

I went full on for the project and had myself a BLAST reading up on "the Pear" and Water Torture and stuff. :p
From what I understood, there were several different methods of using the wheel, and a few of my sources cited "the wheel" as being used by the Spanish... the method I thought was most likely used was the one where they clubbed and broke your bones, because it might not break the skin. But yer, it does seem like more of an execution device, and the Spanish liked to "suspend" and "resume" torture...
RE: Pics thread 〜2〜
My understanding of it was that the Church didn't execute anyone....at least not directly. What they did was to turn certain people over to the secular authorities to be executed. The wheel invariably resulted in death, which is why I agree with your suspicion that the Inquisition itself probably didn't use the wheel. Whether it was used in Spain or not, I don't know.
At any rate, Hollywood has made zillions of dollars fudging the historical facts in order to make for better theater, so I see no reason why you shouldn't have the same latitude.
