Well... I think it really depends on your personality and relationship to the girls. I was in numerous situations when I was talking with a girl, then one of her friends came, and from that point on they were enjoying their private jokes and talking about things that were a complete mystery to me, while I could almost touch the wall that suddenly appeared between me and them (like talking about kanji in front of an analphabet).
But it still depends - if you're a shy guy and they're big talkers, only miracle can save you.

this reminds me of my relationship with young children. Due to my size (180 cm) and clothing (solid black), I tend to appear somewhat creepy for children under 10 years of age or so. But once they get over that, I'm almost instantaneously figured for a pack mule they can ride on.
