Kun and On readings

Post by Casey09 » Wed 06.06.2007 10:05 am

I know that there are two different reading to each kanji character but i would like to know why, and also which is more important. Do i have to know both of them?

It depends on the character.

That's why you should only learn kanji along with vocabulary words; then you know which readings you should focus on.

OK thanx. I was wondering because I bought a book on Kanji and it lists both on and kun readings but it doesn't say which is the more commonly used reading.
