I haven't seen the American version of the Grudge, but I was under the impression that the Grudge 2 was completely different from Juon 2 (which sucked, by the way).

Or was that Ring 2 and リング2 I was thinking of?

There are four feature-length films in the Ju-on/Grudge series. There are, however, two mini-films Shimizu directed for a horror anthology released as a TV movie in Japan in 1998. You can read about those here.

I haven't really been spooked by a horror movie in a long time, the only ones I really like anyway are those that mess with your mind. Tremors was the first horror movie I saw back when I was about 5, for the longest time I would be wary around sand. Saw and Final Destination also spooked me a bit, again because they more or less mess with your mind instead of the hack and slash that has become too common.

Horror movies don't really scare me while i'm watching them. It's later that night when I'm walking down the dark hall to my room or trying to fall asleep when they really hit me. Good thing my room light has a delay-off so I can make it to my bed before it's dark in my room. This coming from a 19-year old American boy it must sound kind of lame, but i'm real susceptible to unreasonable fear.

My favorite Japanese horror i've seen was Ju-On (the Grudge). It's so much better than the American version! I have Kairo (Pulse) but I haven't watched it yet. I also have "Ringu (\)" which I haven't watched either. Ringu didn't scare me at all. Maybe because I was very distracted while I was watching it or it just didn't have the creepy hollywood effects that "The Ring" had. It's more sad than scary, really.
Kansen (Infection) was just fun to watch. It wasn't scary (besides the nurse putting her hands in the needle sterilizer) but it was actually a cool movie IMO.

There's one J-horror film that I really want to see called One Missed Call (着信アリ). A bunch of my friends watched it at a J-Horror movie night, and it really scared everybody. It's the one where people get phone calls from themselves and they hear their future dying screams on the other end.

I've really had it with American horror films. There have been some good ones (classic slashers, etc) but now it just seems like they're getting more and more mindlessly violent. I refuse to see Saw or Hostel. I just don't feel like getting as violent as legally possible is really that scary or significant, but something unique...a good Ghost story is what works the best.

The Grudge(American version) really did suck.
I was laughing half the time.
I wanted to see the real versions though.
I could understand where the whole story was trying to go with the "scary" thing and the plot, but american remakes suck :p
maybe the original versions are scarier :/

I wouldn't say they're scarier. Cause they don't have all the graphics and such...but I think the subject matter is more creepy. Especially when you know where they're coming from with it.
