Can you suggest some Japanese music?

Hello!

I've been trying to find some good japanese music to listen to, and as I cant read japanese very well (yet!) I'm finding it kinda hard. I am totally in love with Mana (Moi dix Mois) thanks to a Gothic&Lolita Bible I have. So do you know of any similar bands?

I also like pop music, and a lot of the music from anime, Generator Gawl, Chobits and Hellsing in particular.

If you're into the gothic stuff, go for Malice Mizer. Hyde and Gackt would also be good choices for you.

Have you heared of Shina Ringo? How about Go!Go!7188? They're more pop/rock but good.
Gackt and Larc-en-ciel are cool too.
Perhaps with your like of anime music you might like The Pillows (FLCL theme)
hopefully that will get you started. Try looking for an online Japanese radio, you can pick up a lot of band names from somthign like that. (Sorry i don't have any particular sites on hand)

Boa is also really popular in Japan nowadays...I think she had 5 albums that ranked first during her career so far.

Its also cool that she's actually Korean but learned Japanese after she was selected at a talent search at age 11. She's learning Mandarin now...

I haven't had much luck finding good music in Jpop.

Hmmm some good Jpop is Arashi, V6 or Kinki Kids. Also, DEFINATELY check out Orange Range (orenji renji)... i love em. LIke others said, the pillows are good... and if you like rockish stuff, L'arc en Ceil...

Origa, although she might count as Russian more than Japanese, I'm not sure.

She did the vocals for the opening songs for Ghost In The Shell, but she also has a few albums and EPs out. Era of Queens and Eien are a couple of great albums, my favorite songs on them being "Lullaby", "Tersicore", and はなのちろとき/hana no chiru toki。

Intestine Baalism is also really good, but I'm not sure you'd like them.
