Browser Based Chat

I was lamenting in the chat today about how with the old flash-chat there were regularly 20 or so people chatting any almost any time of day, but as of late there seem to be only 6 or so people ever in the room, and most of them just sit in idle...

Perhaps it's the inability to easily log onto the chat (requires downloading software), as well as the fact that the chat icon at the top right doesn't show how many people are in the chatroom, that keeps more people from joining in?

I found a completely Ajax based (no Java or flash) Jabber Client on the web http://blog.jwchat.org/jwchat/
Perhaps we could use something like this to get more people into the chat?

These long days with nothing to do at work are just killing me.

I thought I had heard the name somewhere before.

Also, going to the chat page, I noticed that the flash chat is still available, but no one uses it.
They have an XMPP library available for flash. Maybe we should just make our own client (bwahahaha)

I agree! I would love to chat, but the current chat program doesn't interact well with my Mac. So I end up not chatting. I wish I had the computer know-how to suggest an alternative, but unfortunately...

Doesn't ichat natively do Jabber?

Check this out, and just replace all the google info with the chat.japanesepage.com info.

Hold on everyone!!

I'm holding off on implementing it until after the new site launch, but I do have in the works something to remedy this whole problem.

I'll be updating the Jabber server to provide some of the features that old members might remember, as well as web based chat room access etc. It'll just be easier to do it after the move than to try to set it up in parallel with the existing Jabber setup and then try to move it etc.

Hopefully very very soon.

Thanks everyone. I'll have to beg my girlfriend to pick me up plenty of chicken noodle soup... that sounds really good right now. I've been drinking plenty of orange juice, and did have chicken for dinner... but that's not the same as chicken noodle soup.

Well, off to bed to get my rest.

(I'll have to ask her for another box of tissues too... I've gone through almost an entire box today!)
