Suggestion - What's this kanji? sticky thread
Hey, everyonce in a while, I get stuck on a kanji, and I can't look it up because I don't know it, and I would hate to have to create a whole thread for one kanji, so maybe we could have like a sticky thread somewhere to post pictures of Kanji we can't find?
The only problem would be some people might be lazy and just post loads of kanji there, but it would be really useful for people like me who really have tried!

Hi , I'm new to this forum, but I thought I might be able to help you with you knaji issues...
http://www.rikai.com/perl/KanjiMap.pl?kanji=%B3%D4
is a good website for understanding Kanji.
You should be able to enter in any character by using the IME pad (handwriting function) in your language bar and as you draw each stroke with the mouse come up with a list of possible kanji. then once you have the character as text you can cut and paste it anywhere and use internet dictionaries and the site above to give you reading and meaning information

Yeah, that's how I find all the kanji I can now, but sometimes some kanji don't seem to fit into radicals. Sometimes I swear I just can't find it.Infidel wrote:

Like this one: http://img100.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... ionqj1.jpg. It looks like an incrdeible easy set of kanji to look up, but I must be completely losing it because I cannot find it at all.

Not that I had to look that up.
Incidentally the radical search at the unicode site is very good.

... I still can't find that kanji on either this new site or WWWJDIC, even though I can see it now

If you didn't know what those characters where, how would you have looked it up?

豊 has 13 strokes, 6 in the top part so it's 2-6-7 in Skip code.prep_girl_Nessa wrote:

For 富 I'd use multi-rad. 宀 and 田 narrows it down to half a dozen or so.

See http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/SKIP.html. It's one of the codes used at WWWJDIC.prep_girl_Nessa wrote:

SKIP code is very useful when it is easy to stroke count but not easy to work with the radicals.
