Important Site Upgrade Notice

I posted this on the front page as a news item, but I know many people don't look at that and posting it here in the forums may encourage more feedback.

As many of you know, Zen found a neat Content Management Software (CMS) called Drupal. He set it up on the new server (much faster server than this one) and I've been playing with it.

It looks like everything will work out well, but I have no idea how long it will take before we actually move. I'll certainly keep everyone updated here, but there are literally hundreds (thousands?) of articles to individually move (while improving on the content and style of many of them) and Zen is swamped with work at the moment.

I think you will be impressed with the new TJP.

Benefits for Moving:

TJP as a Single, Unified Entity
Until now, to go to the video site, wagawiki or chat features, the viewer basically goes to a totally different site with a different look and feel.

Revenue Sharing
Allows users to add their Adsense codes to their posts and content will encourage contributions. Maybe restrict this to those who have <100 forum posts to weed out spammers...
[NOTE: Please don't get your hopes up too high. I will try my best to make this work, but I am not 100% sure if it will! ]

Greater Community Feel
More community centered features including individual user blogs, user submitted articles, wiki, videos, podcasts, photos and chatting. All within a single, unified website.

Greater Server Speed
By moving to its own server, TJP will be MUCH faster. Also I believe the Drupal interface has less of a bandwidth footprint than the old site.

Manageability
The admins will have greater control over all aspects of the site. Intermediate member levels can be created if needed

Organic Groups
A place on TJP for users to organize, plan and work on projects. e.g. JLPT 3 kyuu study group; Group for discussing Yuki's Story, etc

I have no idea what Adsense is, and I have to say: I've just got into shouting!
But a quicker site will be great.

Just a though, but if AdSense code is Javascript, that might allow users to get "creative" if you know what I mean.

I am sure Google would have thought about that, but if there are security concerns please let us know.

Security wise, im sure Google checks all of those things.. they would be stupid not to. Disabling html and javascript etc. input into text boxes is a big concern. Yall would have to make sure to weed out "AdSense" code from just straight code.. though, if its a plugin of sorts.. it should already take care of that for you.

And just out of curiosity, and you'll have to forgive my ignorance, but moving servers does not change the domain, does it?

Is there a way to integrate the chat into the website? I ask because my computer hates your chat software... well... the temporary substitute computer I use at home currently hates your chat software. (Mostly because a very ignorant woman owns it and believes that Any Downloads Are Wrong, though Pogo and other gaming websites are okay....)

it dosent, you just change the servers DNS to recognize the domain and update the domain nameservers.

How will the chat work? I have grown to like Pandion, as I can leave it on all the time just like MSN or AIM and people can send me private messages as they please. I think keeping that and having a nice chat on the website at the same time would be nice^^ Many people I have met do not like the chat on the website right now, and many liked the old one.
Also, when you say the new site will be faster, what exactly about it will be faster?

Yes, Google has very smart people. But what I meant was allowing users to place Javascript on your site. I remember when you could use it on MySpace and some guy wrote a script that added over a million friends...no more Javascript on MySpace!

It's probably a non-issue because I'm sure nobody with over 100 posts would do something malicious. Just throwing it out there though.
