I think this would help. I feel reluctant to PM anyone because I don't know that they will ever log in to check their PMs. I have been on boards before where they give you the option to receive an email notice if you receive a PM. Is this possible to do on this board?

Yes, it is, it's just a tad hard to find: it's under Private Messages->Options
