Genki 1 Textbook necessary to work with the Workbook?
I've read a lot about Genki 1 + 2 so I thought I have to get those!
I ordered the Genki 1 Workbook and Answer Key. I already have quite a lot of textbooks explaining Japanese grammar/kanji etc. in English/Japanese and German/Japanese (grew up biligual), so I didn't order the Genki Textbook. But I don't have any (good) workbooks... I can already read and write Hiragana & Katakana, but still need to learn Kanji.
So, do I need the Genki 1 Textbook to be able to answer the Workbook questions? Ahh complicated I know...

Well, The textbook is the book that contains all the grammar and some exercises, it also contains kanji per lesson and exercises for that aswell. I don't have the workbook but I just think it has extra exercises.
If you don't know the grammar to answer the questions in the workbook, then you probably need the textbook as well.

For me it was kind of the other way around... I only use the textbook. I do have the workbook, I just never use it because there are plenty of exercises right in the textbook... and I don't want to write in my workbook.
I know, I'm weird.

I would say that the Genki Workbook would be better used with the Text Book. Though you don't really need the workbook Persay for the Text Book Itself.
This really depends on how you learn and what works best for you. I Myself use the Workbook with the Genki Text Book. It is Helpful. The only problem I see with it is that the workbook doesn't utalize ALL of the information in the Genki Text where it should.
BTW Excuse my Horrible Spelling errors

Thanks a lot! Yep, I started and it's fun! I still lack the CDs for the listening exercises but it's not that big of a deal to skip those, so... I'm excited about it. Btw, I'm still at lesson 4
