A "new" Operating System (relatively speaking) that I've started playing with more recently... it's essentially a recreation and update of the old BeOS operating system... and from there it will continue to evolve. (And it's completely free and open source. It's based largely on the MIT license, which is even more open than the GPL license used by Linux etc.)

I really like it so far... very consistent and clean look and feel to it.

Plus the name and style feels very Japanese to me. :P heh

second version of the wallpaper with the logo larger and changed a little. I like this one much better.

You can check out the website at http://www.haiku-os.org/ , get nightly builds if you feel a little more tech savvy at http://haiku-files.org/ , and they're also working on a port of the webkit browser backend to make a native Haiku browser based on webkit called "WebPositive"... and you can get the nightly builds of that at http://mmlr.dyndns.org/ (link at the bottom to the nightly builds).

I figure maybe there are some other geeks around here like me that might enjoy trying this out. :)

There are also Japanese pages in the works for Japanese users as well, fan sites, support sites, IRC channels (#haiku-jp on freenode) etc... one example site is http://www2u.biglobe.ne.jp/~shinta/be/ for the developer Shinta who ported the Anthy IME to BeOS/Haiku among many other things... the Canna IME is included with Haiku, but you have to move the file to enable it, as well as add fonts to support Japanese etc... it's still a work in progress. ;)

If anyone is interested in playing with this and has any questions I can try to help.
