View topic - When did you begin studying Japanese?
I do have a grasp of the basics of Japanese grammar, though... the way word order and particles work, the way subordinate clauses work, the basic principles of politeness, and I think I have a decent grasp of that infamous wa/ga distinction... but other than that, I'm very fuzzy on most grammatical details. So I can't really read or write any kind of "real" Japanese yet, but I'm getting there!

Last opened a textbook in 1991, though I still use reference books now and then. I read a Japanese newspaper most mornings, and that's always good for picking up a new word or expression here and there.

Dad got stationed in Okinawa, so I did too basically.
Started learning that fall, when I started my junior year of high school.
from 2002 to about 2006 I didn't use it much or pick up anything, but the rest of the time I've been making progress - actually managing to improve here in the states; especially the last 16 months.

i started just over a year ago, i bought loads of books on the grammer and verbs and i've got an audio dictionary. sometimes i can spend the whole day studying! but its really hard to study when there's no one there to help you. i sometimes even forget about my uni stuff since i'd much rather do my japanese studying.
I'm like that too. Especially now that I'm back in school, I just want to draw and study all the time. It sucks, though, because I've got a crapload of classes to take, like german.
