イ尓好。第一次見面。:)
For example, 黄河, or huanghe is read as こうが kouga in Japanese.
Place names and personal names can be read in Japanese like this, but Chinese language uses much more 中国字 Chinese characters than Japanese uses, so, Japanese people do not fully or sometimes not at all understand Chinese articles.
And 簡体字 Simplified Chinese characters are different from Japanese 新字, which is also a problem.

Is there any benefit from learning Chinese when learning Japanese?

I'm not Japanese, nor do I live in Japan, but at this site:
http://home.unilang.org/
they have alot of Japanese things and they compare Japanese with some other languages. They said the Japanese language is closer related to the Altaic languages (Turkish)! And they aslo said that Chinese and Japanese are not in the same family.
