The best book ever written about Japan is the blank diary you take with you to write about your adventures in. Nothing else comes close!

Not that I don't see your point, just that I have very little faith in guidebooks as "reading material". I usually end up board out of my mind -- unless I'm actively using one like a phonebook to look up specific things.

Is this book actually interesting to read for its own sake? Word someone who's never going to Japan enjoy it , as one who is merely interested in Japan with the knowledge they'll never be able to afford to go? {A situation a lot of people are in}
Click below daily or a bunch of starving people will come to your house to eat you!(Either way, problem solved :-)

Sounds good. I used a guidebook for the first time now when i was in amsterdam. It didnt really help in other ways than maps and the list of hotels. But sure it´s good to have a guide on a trip or at least read one before going to a new country. :)

This Book Requires no commitment at all

i actualy havent read all of it myself

the book is over 1000 pages so reading the whole thing wont do any good

the authors wife actually owns a japanese shop in the town i live in

and she just told me to rip out the pages of the locations i was going to instead of carrying around the book everywhere( Which would be a really really big pain)

anyone who has any interest in japan would love this book becuase not only is it a guide to different cities but it also has cultural facts and it also has historical notes on the locations

this book is a STEAL! for $20!~

Here is a test.

Open the book to Gifu. Then to Seino region. Then look up Sekigahara.

If it is listed as more than a footnote, it is a good book. ;)

Stupid Lonely Planet has an entry for Mino-kamo and not for Sekigahara. *mind boggles*
