Why are you learning Japanese?
I am writing a speech on why someone should decide to learn Japanese over other languages. I wanted to see other people's point of view on this so...
Why are you learning Japanese and why is it important to learn (for you)?
1. I am learning Japanese because it is challenging and entertaining, you could say it is a hobby. It is also very pretty to look at!
I might go into linguistics and Japanese would be very helpful because it is so different from English.
2. Japanese is important to learn because it gives me something to do with my time. Spanish would take 8 months before I would become bored. Japanese has 3 writing systems and doesn't seem to ever get boring. Also, I like to read manga, watch anime and play video games; Japanese helps me engross me in those things.
thanks

Re: Why are you learning Japanese?
I'm learning Japanese so that I have a reason to come to a forum like this. It's ever so enchanting to meet people who ask the exact same question that has been answered 800 times over only three threads down from the top of the very same page. Thank you for making this a fulfilling experience.
You're probably not as smart as you think.

Try as you might, you can't delete a whole thread. You'll just leave me and Spin looking like we're promoting the other thread....

it happens. We are all friends here so we rib on each other a bit, don't take it too hard. As long as you learn from your mistakes it's all good.

I saw this thread and was about to point out that other thread also. I guess a thread with over 800 posts would be fairly difficult to spot
From How To Ask a Question in the FAQ;
.... If you want to ask a question -- especially if you are new -- check the FAQ and do a search first to see if it has come up and been answered already. .....
Don't complain to me that people kick you when you're down. It's your own fault for lying there

News flash - the chances of a foreigner becoming a successful manga artist in Japan are several orders of magnitude worse than becoming a successful comic book/strip artist in one's own country.

I recommend learning English first, and then maybe Japanese.
