Yeah, it was popular for quite a while, but now it's died down

RE: Top japanese music????
^5 Kayane~ I LOVE Do As Infinity. ^_^ They have some really awesome music.
I also really enjoy the pair Kiroro. Two women and usually a piano--the lyrics are simple and their voices are clear. It's really easy to understand what they are saying, which is really great for Japanese-learners. ^_^
I'll also give my thumbs up to:
m-flo
Amuro Namie
Ketsumeishi
Every Little Thing
and... who can't love SMAP, huh?? "Sekai ni hitotsu dake no hana~~" (though they are a little 'Backstreet Boy'ish... but they are SUPER popular in Japan--lots of TV shows staring them and such.) ^_^

I love Do As Infinity and Amuro Namie.
I also like listening to Otsuka Ai, Utada Hikaru, Se7en (He's Korean but he sings SOME Japanese, not a lot), Zone, Aiko, DA PUMP... etc...
I'm not really into the Visual Kei thing like Dir En Grey... >_< Too rock-ish.

Most of you are clearly Otaku (Excluding the ppl that said X japan)
you guys need to stop listening to mainstream.
I Highly reccomed Listening to Malice Mizer
they are in my opinion one of the greatest J bands ever.

They were pretty good, but in my opinion Gackt is doing better on his own.

NO WAY! GACKT AND MANA AND KAMI NEEEEEDED to be together...the break up was tragic...I dont mind Gackts voice on his own, but I liked his style much more mixed with the Mizers influences
