hechamukure
Okay, saw this used as an insult in some anime on Youtube, and I wondered:
what in the world is a hechamukure (へちゃむくれ)? I can't find it on the EDICT, and even Google fails me.
Anyway, thanks.

Did you try searching in kana? The very first results I get from googling へちゃむくれ are very informative.

Re: hechamukure
Okay, I've looked at the kana links.
From what I can pick out (my Japanese being still very weak)
a へちゃむくれ is:
1. a coward.
2. a useless person
3. an insult a stronger person would use to put down a weaker person.
Am I getting close?
Thanks

Ah OK, maybe I should have been a little more helpful... on a closer look, there's lots of information available, but it's pretty confusing
The Yahoo!知恵袋 result does mention that a certain dictionary defines it as your 1. and 2., but the posters didn't think that really matched up with real-life usage; the conclusion was that it actually means "someone with bad looks"/"really ugly" (sometimes in other contexts "badly constructed"). This is backed up by e-Koujien and Daijirin.
It also seems to have use as 「口をへの字にしてむくれている顔のこと」 "A miffed/angry face where the mouth is made into a へ shape".
That's what I got from a quick Google anyway; hopefully someone who knows a bit more about it in the first place can give more info
It looks like definitions of the word are pretty confused and might even differ between regions...
(maybe more context would help.)
