revision 2.0
These are the rules on proper etiquette while using the Chat. Every time you enter chat, you are agreeing to abide by these rules. If you choose not to, then do not enter chat (or be prepared for a ban).
First and foremost these are merely an extension of the main forum rules. Please familiarize yourself with those as well, they're pretty simple.

1. Please do not ask to be a moderator. If we want you to be a mod, we will ask. (the mods are generally simply automatically assigned from whomever is already a TJP site moderator.)
2. No spamming. In a chatroom, along with the usual definition, this means repeating yourself over and over trying to get people's attention. This will likely just upset people. Please give people time to respond, or understand that they might not be responding if they don't know the answer to a question you've asked etc.
3. Please keep the CAP LOCKS TO THE MINIMUM. It looks like you're shouting at someone.

4. A moderator's decision is final. If they see fit to ban you, then that's it. As most people who use chat know, the mods here do not ban without a valid reason and the mods are very nice people. Some mods may be more tolerant than others but that's your choice if you wish to risk a ban.
5. Be nice to mods. This should be obvious.

6. If anyone wishes to complain about someone else please PM a moderator and they will try to assist you with any problems as soon as possible. Please do not escalate grudge matches, or have people feel unwelcome. We want to keep this a friendly place for everyone.
Beyond that, keep in mind that people of a wide range of skill levels from complete beginner to native Japanese chat in the lounge. The topics can vary widely.

These are the main rules to chat. If you have any questions, you can always ask a moderator. The reason they exist is to help everyone with any problems. They will resolve conflicts, help with Japanese, or just be there to chat about anything you wish.
If there are any questions concerning the chat room (problems or just general questions), feel free to PM me or any other admin.
Thank you for reading the rules. Happy chatting and Japanese studying! Ganbatte ne!
よろしくおねがいします!
