Writing 'watashi' and 'anata'...
How are these written exactly. I have seen both the kanji and hiragana, but it seems hiragana is more popular to use. Which is it?

Watakushi is usually written in kanji, anata in kana.

My penpal uses the kanji for 'watashi' and my manga use the kanji as well. Can't speak for the rest of japan, though.
