Nosebleed in Japan? XD
Hi all!
Did you guys watch Tokyo-friends? Well, I'm wondering about one scene in the first episode:
In the pub (the one in wich Rei (Otsuka) works) some guys are in a fight. One of them stumbles backwards and overthrows Rei, so she falls down. At the next Moment everyone is looking at her because her nose starts to bleed. They even laugh!
Whats so special about nosebleed in japan?

Nosebleeds on TV usually (often) indicate intense arousal.

Yea that's what I thought, specially in anime when a boy sees a girl in a bikini or something of that sort, they get a nosebleed.
I didn't know you can use the nosebleed with girls though?
Hope I helped a little.

It's just a Japanese... er... I don't want to say "superstition." Just a silly little thing.
The thought is that when men are aroused, they blush profusely. This huge rush of blood to the face results in a nosebleed. Not sure about women, but meh. That's the gist of it.

I don't know if it true or not.

Some Anime and Manga like to describe はなぢ(鼻血) exaggeratedly, because some were influenced of the cartoonist 谷岡ヤスジ (Yasuji TANIOKA 1942-1999)

The phrase "hanaji boo 鼻血ブー" became vogue word with his eye-catching picture (I could not find it on the web ). After 谷岡ヤスジ gained popularity with men(male), many Manga artists(?) started to use nosebleeds.

My friend (he is Japanese) says it's true.According to him, the reason is a flat nose ( button nose?? ) of Japanese!! So the vessel wall is thinner than prominent nose's.
He mentioned that his younger brother always got 鼻血 when his brother was teenager (he didn't tell about himself
Thank you for interesting info.
p.s.
In fact, I hardly be 鼻血ブー, though having a flat nose.
Seems your soul wall is thinner than mine. ehehe.

people in anime get nosebleeds when they are witnessing or thinking of something "sexy" or like getting dirty thoughts for example. i didn't know girls can get them, but i guess so too.
it also counts for "nosebleed" when anime ppl put their hands over their noses.

*reads thread*
LMAO I heard about that. I've never watched much anime, but this was indeed the case in some of it. I heard it's true, also, but wasn't sure. Now that you guys confirmed it, I can't stop laughing. That is pretty funny. Now that you mention it, before I was homeschooled, I did have a friend who was Japanese and he did seem to get nosebleeds rather easily. LOL.
