About Character Encoding

I was wondering what character encoding is used in japan. I want to send a letter to my japanese friend so she can read it on her computer. I can see japanese hiragana on my computer but there are a few choices on the IE encoding menu.

Japanese (Shift_JIS)
Japanese (EUC-JP)
Japanese (ISO-2022-JP)

I want to see what she would see on her screen. Im asking because she emailed me and to see her name on the yahoo email list I have to use one. Then to read the email I have to change to another.

use the shift JIS; its the most common. or just send the message with all three codings.

Thanks I'll use that and see how it goes. This will be my first email in japanese so I want to get it right.

Most computers have the ability to see all of those encodings, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

The only encoding that can cause problems is Microsoft's "standard," UNICODE, which may or may not be read by non-Windows computers.

IE sucks/Safari or Motzilla is better.

Windows can get a lot of viruses and spyware/A Mac has never been hacked.

Windows isn't compatable with Macs, but Linux is.

I didn't see Microsoft invent the iPod.

That and yea Bill gates has enough money.
