Kanji Quiz Thread.

Post by paul_b » Fri 04.20.2007 1:02 pm

I had this idea for a quiz thread. Answers consisting of
a) The number of strokes of the kanji that takes the place of the red character and
b) Another word in kana that uses the same kanji.

Example question.

Grade 5 kanji question.
Q: 外国語を話す事はではない。
Speaking foreign languages is not easy.
ようい (adj-na,n) easy; simple; plain (P)

A: 8, やすい easy

Now a real question.

Grade 1 Kanji Question.
Q: いつにかかれますか。
When can I see you?
おめにかかる (exp) to see (someone); to meet someone

A: ?

According to edict (or, at least, rikaichan), めがね uses a different (and more complex) kanji (i.e., 眼) than おめにかかる.

How about:
5; もくてき
Richard VanHouten
ゆきの物語

One point to Rich. Next one's pretty easy.

Q2. Grade 1 Kanji.

そのおんなの子は男の子のように見える。
That girl looks boyish.
おんなのこ (n) girl (P)

A. ?

P.S. Folks, I recommend using the ▲ to make the other kanji easier to see.

One point to tanuki, bringing him even with Rich.

Now a trickier one (I wouldn't get it right on either part, but then I suck at this)

Q3. Grade 3 kanji question.

でもありまた学者でもある人が死んだ。
The poet and scholar is dead.
しじん (n) poet (P)

12; どうし (cheated a bit to get the stroke count on the kanji I think it is. Now to check rikaichan to see if I had the right kanji.) (Darn it!)

I don't know any どうし that fits - and I'm pretty sure it's not 12 strokes.

Any other takers?

Here's a Grade 2 kanji question.

Q4.
その2つの線は直角にまじわっている
The two lines cross each other at right angles.
まじわる (v5r,vi) to cross; to intersect; to associate with; to mingle with; to interest; to join (P)

A4 ... ?

I know, I was thinking of (動)詞, and that's the wrong kanji, hence the "Darn it!"
